As part of their investment process, Beechbrook Capital introduced Directorbank to the Management Team of S:Craft, the leading shutter brand in the UK. The business is headquartered in Winchester and distributes its product range through a network of c.400 retailers and 22 franchise partners. S:Craft’s products are renowned for innovative design and exceptional levels of quality and, with ten years of continuous revenue growth behind them, they have become the largest player in the market.
With support and financial backing from Beechbrook Capital, S:Craft is strategically poised to increase market share by building and developing its retail partner base and franchise community as well as tapping into new growth markets. The business also plans to invest in further product innovation and development.
With a strong and highly experienced executive team in place, Directorbank’s George Heppenstall was approached to source a Non-Executive Chairman to guide and support the team through the next stage of development.
The ideal candidate needed broad Chair experience gained in a similar industry with knowledge of international product sourcing and B2B2C markets. A demonstrable track record of growing a business was essential as was strong private equity understanding. Commercial acumen, strategic capability and stakeholder management experience was also required as was the ability to engage, mentor and drive the management team to achieve the desired objectives.
A full search exercise was conducted combining fresh research and targeted mapping. The strength of Directorbank’s Chair network in this area facilitated an accelerated process and several high calibre candidates were introduced for client interview culminating in Marcus Moir being successfully appointed to the role.
Marcus is a non-executive SME expert with substantial experience in supporting and challenging executive teams to develop and grow their business. He also has a proven track record of working with Private Equity investors, ensuring the highest levels of governance and financial sustainability.
Marcus is currently Chair of Archwood Group, a manufacturing and distribution business with three brands supplying: stairparts, small mouldings and flooring and other wood products under the Richard Burbidge, Atkinson & Kirby and Masons Timber Products brands. He was also NED of Brintons Carpets, a 230 year old woven carpet manufacturer, where he delivered a successful exit generating substantial returns for shareholders.
