Electrosonic specialises in audio-visual & technology services and has delivered some of the world’s most iconic immersive experiences for major brands across media, business, entertainment, sport and hospitality. Projects include Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi, MGM Cotai resort in China, the Dinosaur Hall at London’s Natural History Museum and Space Shuttle Atlantis at the Kennedy Space Centre Visitor Complex.
Established in 1964, the company is privately-owned and headquartered in the UK with a significant US presence. It employs around 500 talented people and services clients in over 30 countries.
Having successfully appointed both an MD and NED for Electrosonic in 2018, Directorbank’s James Searby was approached to source a passionate, entrepreneurial CFO to help drive the business forward.
Responsibilities of the role would include ownership of all aspects of financial planning and management, leading and motivating a global finance team, ensuring effective corporate governance, risk management and control systems, managing relationships with bankers, auditors, financial and legal advisers, and overseeing the Procurement, Legal and IT functions globally.
The ideal candidate would be a senior financial professional from a IT Services/Software/Digital Media background. International experience would be essential, specifically US exposure and a proven ability to deliver results in a high pressure environment with the commercial insight and knowledge to make a significant contribution to the overall strategy and direction of the company. Accomplished at building long-term, constructive relationships with peers, the ideal candidate would also have the skills to influence the agenda of the wider organisation and its external stakeholders.
Supported by Researcher Maire McKay, James completed a thorough search of the relevant markets including comprehensive mapping as well as analysis of, and referrals from, Directorbank’s candidate network.
From a strong short list, Sonny Bangar was the preferred candidate and duly accepted the position.
A highly capable CFO and strong both commercially and technically in equal measure, Sonny brings significant experience in transitioning and expanding IT Services and Digital SMEs on an international scale.
Most recently he was Group CFO for NSC Global plc, a fast growth Managed Services company. Here he helped the business grow to a fully-fledged services company operating in more than 30 countries with 2,300 employees and revenues of £230m.
Prior to NSC, Sonny worked in numerous IT and Professional Services businesses including Sapient, a technology/digital services provider to agencies globally. During his tenure, Sonny ran the UK then EMEA and APAC finance teams which reported rapid growth with revenues climbing from $70m to $600m over 8 years.
