ElectraLink

Company overview

ElectraLink is a privately-owned provider of data transfer, analytics and governance services to the UK electricity and wider utilities markets. Founded in 1998, the company operates the Data Transfer Service which underpins supplier switching, settlement and other processes critical to a competitive energy market. Owned by the Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), ElectraLink is playing a key role in the rapid evolution of energy services in the UK within an increasingly data intensive and transparent market.

As part of their ongoing expansion, ElectraLink required a Managing Director to grow their Data Analytics business. Key responsibilities would include confirming the business case, recruiting a team, taking the proposition to market and growing revenue and profitability.

The brief

Directorbank was approached by Stuart Lacey, the CEO of ElectraLink, after we successfully placed a Finance & Commercial Director at the business a few months previously.

The ideal candidate would have significant experience of leading a Data Analytics business including developing strategy, market proposition, sales and channel management. A demonstrable track record of growing profitable revenue was essential, whilst an understanding of the UK energy market would be advantageous.

The process

A thorough search of the analytics market was undertaken, which combined Directorbank’s market leading network of entrepreneurial candidates with a targeted search into the UK data analytics industry.

A longlist of 12 interviewed candidates was delivered to ElectraLink, of which eight were chosen for client interview. Four were then taken through to the second stage, before a final stage took place with the chosen candidate, Nick Blake. After supporting ElectraLink with structuring a package to secure Nick and incentivise future growth, Nick duly accepted the position.

The result

Nick’s impressive track record of leading a world class Data Analytics business makes him ideally suited to the role. He built and grew Capgemini’s ‘Big Data and Analytics’ division with overall responsibility for proposition development, sales, partnerships and alliances, capability development and client relationships. During his tenure he successfully grew the team from 30 to 100. Most recently, he was Head of Business Development for Capgemini Insights & Data UK where he developed go-to-market propositions for the Energy and Utilities industries.
