Clive Christian is a British luxury goods company specialising in premium fragrance and high-end interiors. The brand is synonymous with unsurpassed quality, British craftsmanship, uniqueness and creativity.
Founded in 1978 and credited with the creation of the statement kitchen, the business now offers a wide range of opulent interiors to discerning clients across the globe.
In 1999, the company acquired the Crown Perfumery Company, the only house to have been granted the image of Queen Victoria’s crown, an image which defines every bottle of Clive Christian perfume. In keeping with its luxurious brand image, Clive Christian perfumes are uniquely complex and crafted with the rarest and most precious ingredients. Clive Christian No. 1 is the most expensive perfume in the world.
Following EME Capital’s acquisition of the business, Directorbank was appointed to identify an MD to support the Group CEO in driving momentum and expansion across the Clive Christian Furniture brand. The ideal candidate required a strong background in luxury furnishings, both in retail and manufacturing and, given the international reach of the business, a proven track record in driving organic growth and new business development in key global markets including the US and Middle East. It was also critical that they had empathy and understanding of the intricacies of successfully leading such a significant division of a highly respected and internationally-renowned brand.
Additionally, the business required a Group CFO to support the Board of Directors in maximising the profitable growth of the business to meet and exceed the goals of the investors. Candidates needed to be strategically and operationally strong with the ability to lead a process of change management and improvement. Crucial to a successful appointment was prior experience within the private equity sector, ideally with exposure to the luxury retail sector, along with a track record of helping to drive shareholder value.
