Allergy Therapeutics is an AIM-listed multinational specialty pharmaceutical company focused upon the diagnosis and treatment of allergic conditions, with a special focus on allergy vaccination.

The company employs around 510 staff – some 220 in the UK, 140 in Germany and 150 largely sales and marketing staff across Italy, Spain, Austria, Netherlands, Switzerland and the USA.

A leader in its field, the company has ambitious plans for growth over the next four years, especially into the emerging USA market.

Brief & process

To help the company prepare for rapid development and international expansion, Allergy Therapeutics approached Directorbank’s Graham Jones to appoint a new Organisational Development & HR Director. Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Formulating a strategy to attract, develop and retain the best, most diverse and brightest talent to the company;
  • Working with the CEO/Board to devise and implement the optimal Global Organisational Structure for the company;
  • Championing a ‘Culture of Performance’ across the business, globally;
  • Enshrining the company’s values in all development plans, recruitment strategies and performance appraisal.


The ideal candidate would have experience in Human Resources Management in a complex, international, multi-site organisation. They would be able to demonstrate energy and passion for talent/leadership management, and would have a clear track record of success, preferably from a relevant sector.

Led by Graham Jones and supported by two researchers, Directorbank mapped over 150 companies and assessed more than 50 potential candidates as part of a comprehensive search process.

Dr Pavica Barr was successfully appointed to the position.


Pavica is outstandingly well qualified with a strong European outlook and excellent international experience having worked in 40 countries.

Her most recent role was Global Senior Organisational Development Leader for Novartis Pharmaceuticals where she worked directly with the CEO/Executive Team to embed an innovative/performance-driven culture to support substantive growth on a global scale.

Her career history also includes Head of OD, Global Services for BT where she led the execution of development strategies to increase company performance, and Head of Leadership Development for Right Management Consultants.
